National award-winning band, HALO, is set to entertain the crowd at the Harcourts Black and White Ball – the Air Chatham’s Sunshine and a Plate festival’s premier event for 2019.

Halo was awarded “top group” at the 2018 Variety Artists Club awards and plays at events in New Zealand and overseas. The band is made up of high-achieving musicians in their own right, performing at well-known events, including Auckland’s Christmas in The Park, New Zealand Idol, Rise Up Telethon For Christchurch, Mc Donald's Circus X and Cirque Rocks, and musicals, Star Light Express, Grease and Rent.
The black and white-themed ball was introduced to this year’s festival line-up as organisers identified a gap in the market for a glamorous high-end event. Sunshine and a Plate Fundraising Manager Anna Meredith said it was an event not to miss.
“It’s set to be an entertainment spectacular. In addition to the award-winning band, we have dance performances and a live auction with high-profile items. If you love dressing up to the nines and dancing the night away, this one’s for you, but you can have plenty of fun without even getting on the dance floor too. Tickets have been selling incredibly fast this year, so book now to avoid disappointment.”
There will be an online auction with great prizes running throughout the festival, with a category of listed items that are live-auction only at the ball. Harcourts owner Glenn Austin is running a live auction at the ball which will have exclusive items only available to attendees. The amazing prizes are varied and include high profile items such as signed All Blacks memorabilia, an electric guitar signed by the Eagles, experience packages and local services too. Some of the locally provided prizes include a full page ad in the beacon, a bike tour with Motu Trails, a Haircare package with studio 36, a 43” HD television from The Warehouse and a family day with Julian’s Berry farm. Focus Chartered Accountants has contributed a business review package worth $3,000 and James Stanbridge, top local photographer is donating prints of his iconic shots for auction.

Harcourts Whakatāne Branch Manager Garry Mason said it was a no-brainer when asked to support the event. “This is the must-attend event of the festival, truly a night to remember. We are excited and looking forward to being a part of it, especially as money raised goes towards a very worthy cause. Hospice do an incredible job in our local communities and for us it’s about giving back to them, rather than a cause where the money is spread nationwide.”
Ms Meredith said support from Harcourts, a new sponsor for 2019, went above and beyond their expectations.
“Harcourts are also volunteering at two other Sunshine and a Plate events and selling raffle tickets too. It is only with businesses like Harcourts and our other sponsors stepping up and being a part of this that we can raise funds and keep Hospice free for the Eastern Bay.”
Return travel from the New World Whakatane carpark is included in the ticket price, as are decadent grazing tables, a free drink on arrival and a night full of entertainment. The ball is a big event but tickets are still limited – they can be purchased on www.sunshineandaplate.nz or at the Hospice Whakatane Shop.
