Honey for Hospice

Golden Grove Apiaries have made a very generous donation to Hospice, in memory of Bruce “Buzzy Bee” Stanley. A limited number of local Rewarewa Honey jars will be available for purchase at the Whakatane and Opotiki Shop – a rare opportunity for kiwis to buy the Golden Grove product which is usually all exported.

Bruce and Win Stanley were the founders of Golden Grove Apiaries in 1974, with a queen bee breeding operation renowned for their quality line of Italian queens – exporting to Japan, Canada, Israel and Iran. Since the 80’s they became leaders in the pollination industry, providing hives throughout the Bay, and then began producing Manuka honey in 1992.

CEO Peter Bassett is looking forward to offering Hospice supporters a great value and quality product, where 100% of the purchase price will go towards providing end of life care services in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. “It’s great to have product that provides good value and also raises funds to help care for EBoP residents in their final months. The board and staff at Hospice EBoP are very grateful for the generosity of Golden Grove Apiaries; it’s a wonderful tribute to Bruce Stanley.”

Rewarewa honey is a rich, buttery and dark caramel-like honey with subtle malt and smokey undertones is perfect for hot beverages, baking, marinades, or simply enjoyed with fresh fruit or toast. It is becoming known for its health benefits, being very high in antioxidants and antibacterial properties.
