We are blown away by the support from Master Builders and the team, their sponsors and supporters with their first charity golf tournament in Whakatane. The ambrose tournament raised over $9,000 including the raffles and donations on the day. The funds they raised will help towards the shortfall for over one hundred nurse visits to patients, making a very big difference to their lives and our community.

While the weather didn't quite rule in their favour, the Ambrose tournament teed off at 10am on Friday the 11th of October, and went through to midday when the weather escalated and the game was cut short. Keen golfers, pros and newbies across the Eastern Bay, Tauranga and Rotorua took part the golf tournament.

There were incredible giveaways and spot prizes including a $1000 travel voucher from McIntosh Travel, and power tools from PlaceMakers.

John Klein, Whakatane Branch President of Registered Master Builders said they were pleased to be able to support local charities with this inaugural, annual event. Keeping the money raised within the Whakatane community is a priority for the Executive Committee. “The decision to support Hospice was an easy one. We all value the wonderful work that they do, providing vital medical care to residents for free. We know that Hospice in the Eastern Bay needs to raise $500,000 from the community every year just to keep the lights on. We are very pleased to organise this event knowing that it will contribute towards people at the end of their lives receiving the care they need with dignity and compassion, helping them add life to their days and living well.”

Fundraising Manager Anna Hughes is very grateful for the event and looks forward to the day. “It’s no small feat to organise a tournament like this, and Hospice is so grateful to the organisers, hole sponsors, prize givers and of course the Whakatane Golf club for hosting it. When businesses step up to support Hospice like this, it helps us not only continue providing the service, but also to focus on investing in our future so that we are around for generations to come.”

Sponsorship for the day has been gratefully received from major sponsor PlaceMakers and hole sponsors Resene, The Brickery, Glen’s Glass & Aluminium, Midland Brick NZ, Carters, Gib, Whakatane Roofing, Aon, Mitre 10, Fairview Aluminium, JA Russell Limited, Plumbing world, Allied Concrete and James Hardie. Other supporters include the BCITO, McIntosh Travel and Radio Bay of Plenty.
